Consultations for parents

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to support your child’s emotions while staying regulated yourself, you’re not alone. Learn to tend to old wounds, regulate yourself and be present for your little one.

Parenthood can be both beautiful and overwhelming.
You may notice yourself reacting more strongly than you expected — feeling easily triggered, irritable, anxious, or shut down during your child’s big emotions.

This doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means your nervous system is working hard to keep you safe, often pulling from experiences that go back long before your child was born.

I help parents who find themselves feeling stuck in stress responses, guilt, or self-criticism as they try to show up for their child. Using a combination of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, and soon Brainspotting, we’ll gently work with the roots of these reactions — so you can parent with more steadiness, connection, and ease.

Understanding what’s happening in your body and mind when parenting feels overwhelming

  1. Releasing stress and emotional triggers stored in the nervous system

  2. Building tools for self-regulation so you can stay calm in hard moments

  3. Strengthening attunement and connection with yourself — which naturally improves connection with your child

  4. Learning co-regulation skills to help your child feel safe and supported through their own big feelings

Frequently asked questions about parent consultation sessions

FAQs

  • The initial few sessions will be spent getting to know you: your past, present and hopes for the future. We will explore what specifically is feeling challenging for you with your child/ren and understand what those triggers might be connected to. From there we will develop techniques, coping skills, and tools for you to manage your own emotions so that you can respond to your kid in a way that feels in alignment with your values. I will support you in developing scripts to use with your children in those hard moments and I will celebrate your successes with you.

  • The work we do together is 100% individualized. We will work together to meet your goals and check in along the way to see how you are feeling about your progress on your initial goals. For some people they feel they have met their goals and want to end the work, for others they feel they have met their initial goals but then find they have new goals and want to continue our consultation work. How many consultation sessions depends on you and your needs.

  • Reach out to schedule our initial 15 minute consultation call! We will discuss why you are reaching out for therapy, your current coping skills and what your hopes are for therapy. I will share with you how I practice as a therapist and together we will determine if we are a good fit. If we are a good fit, we will go forward with scheduling our first appointment! Learn more.
